Description
Each spring, the festival of "Sechselauten" takes place in Zurich. Oddly enough it celebrates LONGER working hours possible in spring, when daylight stretches the working day from five to six o'clock. All of this makes sense when one considers that Zurich is the birthplace of Huldrych Zwingli and the cradle of the protestant work ethic. Nevertheless, on this special day, the whole city takes (half) a day off and celebrates the arrival of spring by burning an effigy of a snowman filled with firecrackers until it explodes - the faster it blows up the better the summer. This, of course is all done by dozens of traditionally clothed guildsmen after the whole city is drowned in parades, amusement park attractions, and, most of all, flowers - here a detailed view of one of the many potable water fountains in the city covered with a floral bouquet of colorful Gerber daisies.
